Ross

I believe the answer is:

scream

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'salve' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'are crying out for a sun' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'are' is 'rea' which is present in the answer.
'sun' could be 's' (abbreviation) and 's' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for scream that I've seen before include "funny man" , "Yell in fear" , "Hoot - yell in pain" , "irresistibly funny person" , "A long piercing cry as of terror" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
