Arms and legs but no running needed on the pitch!

I believe the answer is:
all fours
'pitch' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both acts as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps there's an association between them I don't understand?
I don't understand the remainder of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for all fours that I've seen before include "Bear thus to make progress" , "steady par round?" , "Hands and knees - crawl on them" , "Walking on them, one is on hands and knees" , "Hands and feet" .)
