Arose from having the call-up date wrong (8)
I believe the answer is:
emanated
'arose' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'call-up date wrong' is the wordplay.
'call' becomes 'name' (as in calling or naming someone something).
'up' says the letters should be written backwards (in down clue: letters go upwards).
'wrong' indicates anagramming the letters.
'name' written backwards gives 'eman'.
'date' anagrammed gives 'ated'.
'eman'+'ated'='EMANATED'
'from having the' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for emanated that I've seen before include "Issued or originated from a source" , "came forth" , "Emerged or originated" , "Flowed" , "Issued forth, as from a source" .)
