I believe the answer is:

'arrives' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their -s form, I cannot see how one could define the other.
'refreshment after the performance' is the wordplay.
'refreshment' becomes 'sup' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'after' says to put letters next to each other.
'the performance' becomes 'show' (eg a theatrical show).
'sup' after 'show' is 'SHOWS UP'.
