Crossword Genius

Artist in little restaurant holding wine, perhaps (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

carafe

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'wine perhaps' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how one could define the other.

'artist in little restaurant' is the wordplay.
'artist' becomes 'RA' (Royal Academician, member of Royal Academy of Arts).
'in' is an insertion indicator.
'little restaurant' becomes 'cafe' (cafe is a kind of restaurant. I am not sure about the 'little' bit.).
'ra' put within 'cafe' is 'CARAFE'.

'holding' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for carafe that I've seen before include "Open-topped container for wine or water" , "Water-jar" , "Glass bottle for serving wine at table" , "Open-topped glass container" , "Glass water jug" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
