As worn by women in the N. Pacific? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bikini

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'women in the n pacific?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.

'as worn' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'as' could be 'in' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'in' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'by' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bikini that I've seen before include "What holidaymaker may assume" , "Beach wear" , "Coral island" , "Swimsuit for the beach" , "strip of beach" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
