Attendant nurses are not family (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

parentage

'family' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'attendant nurses are not' is the wordplay.
'attendant' becomes 'page' (page is a kind of attendant).
'nurses' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'not' becomes 'nt' ('n't' can be a synonym of 'not'**).
'are'+'nt'='arent'
'page' going around 'arent' is 'PARENTAGE'.

(Other definitions for parentage that I've seen before include "Extraction, descent" , "Ancestors" , "child-minders" , "results from birth" , "Who's your father (and mother)?" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
