Crossword Genius

Attraction of tune to play standing up around piano (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

honeypot

'attraction' is the definition.

'tune to play standing up around piano' is the wordplay.
'tune' becomes 'hone'.
'to play standing' becomes 'toy' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'up' says the letters should be written backwards (in down clue: letters go upwards).
'around' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'piano' becomes 'p'.
'toy' reversed gives 'yot'.
'yot' placed around 'p' is 'ypot'.
'hone'+'ypot'='HONEYPOT'

'of' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for honeypot that I've seen before include "Mecca?" , "attractive thing" , "Winnie the Pooh's jar?" , "Place to which many are attracted" , "Enticing source of pleasure" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
