I believe the answer is:

notarised

'authenticated' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'an editor's spread' is the wordplay.
'spread' indicates anagramming the letters.
'an'+'editors'='aneditors'
'aneditors' with letters rearranged gives 'NOTARISED'.

(Another definition for notarised that I've seen is " Authenticated".)
