Author to attempt an art form (6)
I believe the answer is:
poetry
'an art form' is the definition.
'poetry' can be an answer for 'form' (I have seen 'Form of literature ' mean 'poetry' so perhaps 'form' could also mean 'poetry'). I'm not sure about the 'an art' bit.
'author to attempt' is the wordplay.
'author' becomes 'Poe' (Edgar Allan Poe).
'to attempt' becomes 'try' (synonyms).
'poe'+'try'='POETRY'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for poetry that I've seen before include "Literature in metrical form" , "Work by Keats or Shelley, say" , "Literary genre" , "Sonnets, limericks etc" , "Lines" .)
