'bit' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'back legs tame animal' is the wordplay.
'back' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'legs' becomes 'pins' (pin is a kind of leg).
'tame animal' becomes 'pet' (pet is a kind of animal. I am not sure about the 'tame' bit.).
'pins' written backwards gives 'snip'.
'snip'+'pet'='SNIPPET'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for snippet that I've seen before include "Scrap (of information, news etc)" , "Brief extract" , "A cutting" , "A small piece cut off" , "Short extract" .)
