Band, outfit close to obscene (6)
I believe the answer is:
stripe
'band' is the definition.
(I know that band can be written as stripe)
'outfit close to obscene' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'outfit' could be 'strip' (I've seen this before) and 'strip' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for stripe that I've seen before include "Chevron; band" , "Priest (anag)" , "Broad band" , "Length of material, maybe showing rank" , "Distinctive band" .)
