I believe the answer is:

screws

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a number of twists' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both acts as well as being plural nouns.
Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?

'barman produces beers with no head' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'barman' could be 'sc' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'sc' is found within the answer.
'with' could be 'w' (abbreviation) and 'w' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'res' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'for' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for screws that I've seen before include "... men guarding prisoners" , "Fastening devices and prison guards, colloquially" , "Pins with spiral threads" , "Prison warders (sl.)" , "Prisoner guards, colloquially" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
