Crossword Genius

Bath, perhaps, where vulgar sounds detected behind people (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

racecourse

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'bath perhaps' is the definition.
(as in Bath Racecourse)

'detected behind people' is the wordplay.
'detected' becomes 'course' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'behind' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'people' becomes 'race' (people can mean a national group or race).
'course' put after 'race' is 'RACECOURSE'.

'where vulgar sounds' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for racecourse that I've seen before include "Eg, Epsom" , "Aintree, for example" , "Running track for horses" , "Doncaster, for example?" , "Where to find better" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
