Be afraid to go much out of the way (4)
I believe the answer is:
fear
'be afraid' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'go much out of the way' is the wordplay.
'go much' becomes 'far' (I've seen this in another clue. I am not sure about the 'go' bit.).
'out of' is an insertion indicator (some letters on the outside of others).
'the way' becomes 'e' (Compass direction - East).
'far' going around 'e' is 'FEAR'.
'to' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for fear that I've seen before include "awe" , "Be afraid of" , "Dread, great anxiety" , "Consternation" , "Terror" .)
