Be very eager to get hold of the last item of jewellery (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

pendant

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'item of jewellery' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'be very eager to get hold of the last' is the wordplay.
'be very eager' becomes 'pant' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'to get hold of' indicates putting letters inside.
'the last' becomes 'end' (I've seen this in another clue).
'pant' placed around 'end' is 'PENDANT'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for pendant that I've seen before include "Ornament hanging from necklace" , "earring, say" , "One hung by the neck" , "Hanging jewellery item" , "Ornament hanging from a piece of jewellery" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
