Become eligible for divorce (5)
I believe the answer is:
marry
This clue might be a double definition.
'become' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their base form, I cannot understand how they can define each other.
'eligible for divorce' is the second definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with social activities as well as being verbs in their base form.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for marry that I've seen before include "Unite; gosh! (arch.)" , "Tie the knot; why! (Shak.)" , "Well I never!" , "expression of surprise once" , "Gain a wife or husband" .)
