Beef for the champions? (7)
I believe the answer is:
topside
'beef' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'for the champions?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'for' could be 'to' (eg both can mean 'in the opinion of') and 'to' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
(Other definitions for topside that I've seen before include "a cut above the others?" , "Towards ship's upper decks; part of cut of beef" , "Deposit (anag) -- cut of meat" , "Outer cut of beef" , "Lean cut of beef, no bone" .)
