Being more distant, maybe the RAF can't quite get there (7)
I believe the answer is:
farther
'being more distant' is the definition.
(more far away)
'the raf can't quite get there' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is located in the answer.
an anagram of 'raf' is 'far' which is within the answer.
The remaining letters 'her' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'maybe' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for farther that I've seen before include "More distant" , "Beyond; her raft (anag)" , "longer" , "Over a greater distance" .)
