I believe the answer is:

humble pie

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'being' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are singular nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'unlikely to boast detective found last clue those feeling the shame consumed it' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'detective' could be 'pi' (private eye) and 'pi' is found within the answer.
'it' could be 'e' ('e' can mean 'electronic' which is similar to 'IT') and 'e' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'humble' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
