Crossword Genius

Bells ring only up to noon during visit (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

carillon

'bells' is the definition.
(I know that Carillon is a carillon)

I don't understand how the rest of the clue works.

(Other definitions for carillon that I've seen before include "Stop" , "Tune played from bell-tower" , "Set of bells for playing tunes" , "Set of bells playing melodies" , "Set of bells or a tune played on them" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
