Crossword Genius

Best resume novel, picking up quietly (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

supreme

'best' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'resume novel picking up quietly' is the wordplay.
'novel' is an anagram indicator.
'picking up' is an insertion indicator.
'quietly' becomes 'p' (p for piano and quiet).
'resume' anagrammed gives 'sureme'.
'sureme' going around 'p' is 'SUPREME'.

(Other definitions for supreme that I've seen before include "Chief" , "Unsurpassed" , "Highest in authority; rich cream sauce (dish)" , "Most important" , "Ranked highest" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
