Bid too rarely in bridge? (8)
I believe the answer is:
overpass
'bridge?' is the definition.
(overpass is a kind of bridge)
'bid too rarely' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'bid' could be 'pass' (I have seen 'pointless bid' mean 'pass' so perhaps 'bid' could also mean 'pass') and 'pass' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'over' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'in' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for overpass that I've seen before include "Flyover" , "bridge" , "High-level road" , "high road" .)
