Big music venues in America less crazy on reflection (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

arenas

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'big music venues' is the definition.
'arenas' can be an answer for 'venues' (I've seen this in another clue). I'm not sure about the 'big music' bit.

'america less crazy on reflection' is the wordplay.
'america' becomes 'a' (common abbreviation eg in USA).
'less crazy' becomes 'saner' (I've seen this in another clue).
'on reflection' says the letters should be written backwards.
'saner' backwards is 'renas'.
'a'+'renas'='ARENAS'

'in' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for arenas that I've seen before include "Central spaces of stadiums or amphitheatres" , "Spheres, areas of activity" , "Centres of sports stadiums" , "Structures for open-air events" , "A snare for central parts of amphitheatres" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
