Big steps tried out on board (7)
I believe the answer is:
strides
'big steps' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'tried out on board' is the wordplay.
'out' is an anagram indicator (out can mean wrong or inaccurate).
'on' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'board' becomes 'ss' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'tried' is an anagram of 'tride'.
'tride' put into 'ss' is 'STRIDES'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for strides that I've seen before include "Walks with long steps" , "footsteps" , "Daks" , "Trousers; long steps" , "Paces -- trousers" .)
