Bill is one sort of cricketer on the up (3)
I believe the answer is:
tab
'bill' is the definition.
(tab is a kind of bill)
'cricketer on the up' is the wordplay.
'cricketer' becomes 'bat' (I've seen this before).
'on the up' says the letters should be written backwards (in a down clue, letters go up).
'bat' written backwards gives 'TAB'.
'is one sort of' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for tab that I've seen before include "Marker" , "Tally of orders in bar" , "Bar tally; small flap" , "ticket" , "Small flap - bill" .)
