Birds to see differently at some stage? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

geese

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'birds' is the definition.
(goose is a kind of bird)

'see differently at some stage?' is the wordplay.
'differently' indicates anagramming the letters.
'at' says to put letters next to each other (I've seen this in other clues).
'some stage?' becomes 'ge' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'see' anagrammed gives 'ese'.
'ese' after 'ge' is 'GEESE'.

'to' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for geese that I've seen before include "Cackling creatures" , "Birds that fly in a skein" , "Domesticated fowl" , "Six of these are 'a-laying' on 31 December" , "Honking birds" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
