Blackbird's dish? (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bowl

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue might be a double definition.

'blackbird's' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.

'dish?' is the second definition.
(I know that bowl is a bowl)

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bowl that I've seen before include "Greatly surprise" , "Round deep dish" , "Deep dish or basin" , "piece of china" , "Throw the ball" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
