Bloke in crimson gets place in custody (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

remand

'place in custody' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'bloke in crimson' is the wordplay.
'bloke' becomes 'man' (I've seen this in other clues).
'in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'crimson' becomes 'red' ('red' can be a synonym of 'crimson').
'man' put inside 'red' is 'REMAND'.

'gets' is the link.

(Other definitions for remand that I've seen before include "Place of detention for those awaiting trial" , "Return (often) to custody" , "Return prisoner to custody pending further investigation" , "Commital to custody" , "Place (defendant) on bail or in custody" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
