Crossword Genius

Bloom revolted mate (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

rosebud

'bloom' is the definition.
(I know that rosebud is a type of bud)

'revolted mate' is the wordplay.
'revolted' becomes 'rose' (I've seen this before).
'mate' becomes 'bud' (short for buddy).
'rose'+'bud'='ROSEBUD'

(Other definitions for rosebud that I've seen before include "Young flower (to be gathered?)" , "Immature rambler" , "Young flower (gathering recommended!)" , "one with potential to bloom" , "Partially-opened flower" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
