Crossword Genius

Boarders finding number of insects (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tenants

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'boarders' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'number of insects' is the wordplay.
'number' becomes 'ten' (ten is a kind of whole number).
'of insects' becomes 'ants' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'ten'+'ants'='TENANTS'

'finding' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tenants that I've seen before include "residents" , "They pay rent" , "Occupiers" , "Lodgers" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
