'breaking' is an insertion indicator.
'record' becomes 'L-P' (abbreviation for long play record).
'eg'+'u'='egu'
'egu' put into 'lp' is 'LEG-UP'.

(Another definition for leg-up that I've seen is " A boost to improve one's position".)
