Boot wearer, upset about closure, takes off (5,2)
I believe the answer is:
sends up
'takes off' is the definition.
(both can mean to satirise or mock)
'boot wearer upset about closure' is the wordplay.
'boot wearer' becomes 'puss' (fairytale character Puss-in-Boots).
'upset' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'about' is an insertion indicator.
'closure' becomes 'end' (I've seen this before).
'puss' backwards is 'ssup'.
'ssup' placed around 'end' is 'SENDS UP'.
(Another definition for sends up that I've seen is " Takes the mickey".)
I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
