Bottom raised by female playwright (8)
I believe the answer is:
sheridan
'playwright' is the definition.
(I know that Sheridan is a playwright)
'bottom raised by female' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'female' could be 'she' ('she' refers to a woman) and 'she' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for sheridan that I've seen before include "Irish dramatist" , "- Le Fanu, Ir. novelist" , "School for Scandal playwright" , "Irish playwright (The Rivals)" , "Richard Brinsley ........, Anglo-Irish author of ` `The School for Scandal' '" .)
