Braggart’s play cancelled (4-3)
I believe the answer is:
show-off
'braggart's' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'play cancelled' is the wordplay.
'play' becomes 'show' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'cancelled' becomes 'off' (similar in meaning).
'show'+'off'='SHOW-OFF'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for show-off that I've seen is " Ostentatious exhibitionist".)
I've seen this clue in The Times.
