Brand of permitted colour (7)
I believe the answer is:
scarlet
'colour' is the definition.
(I know that scarlet is a type of red)
'brand of permitted' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'brand' could be 'scar' (I've seen this before) and 'scar' is located in the answer.
'permitted' could be 'let' (to let something happen is to permit it) and 'let' is located in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for scarlet that I've seen before include "Crimson" , "Cherry-red" , "Let cars be this colour" , "Clarets (anag.)" , "bloody?" .)
