Brave as the inner man (5)
I believe the answer is:
gutsy
'brave' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'the inner man' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is located in the answer.
'man' could be 'gus' and 'gus' is located in the remaining letters.
A single letter 'y' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'as' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for gutsy that I've seen before include "Sort of (non-standard)" , "Bold" , "Plucky" , "Being full of courage" , "Spirited; greedy" .)
