Bravery shown by many as old as we are (7)
I believe the answer is:
courage
'bravery' is the definition.
(I know that bravery can be written as courage)
'many as old as we are' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'many' could be 'c' (C is the Roman numeral for 100) and 'c' is found within the answer.
'old' could be 'o' (common abbreviation eg in OE for Old English) and 'o' is found in the answer.
'are' could be 'a' (short for 'are', historical unit of measurement) and 'a' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'urge' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'shown by' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for courage that I've seen before include "Daring" , "Valour" , "Bravery, spirit" , "See 6" , "Bottle" .)
