Brief tramp around Italy (7)
I believe the answer is:
dossier
'brief' is the definition.
(both can mean a collection of information)
'tramp around italy' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'tramp' could be 'i' (where the crossword setter is 'Tramp') and 'i' is found within the answer.
'around' could be 'o' (a round letter) and 'o' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for dossier that I've seen before include "Set of documents about person" , "brief" , "Report" , "File of documents" , "Set of papers" .)
