Broad-shouldered beast, what only child has that's been raised (5)
I believe the answer is:
bison
'broad-shouldered beast' is the definition.
'bison' can be an answer for 'beast' (I've seen this before). I'm unsure of the 'broad-shouldered' bit.
'only child has that's been raised' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'child' could be 'son' (male child) and 'son' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'bi' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'what' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for bison that I've seen before include "Shaggy-haired wild ox" , "Wild cow" , "US wild ox" , "Buffalo (US)" , "Big beast" .)
