Broadcast work by author turned up in shops (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

emporia

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'up in shops' is the definition.
'emporia' can be an answer for 'shops' (I've seen this before). I'm unsure of the 'up in' bit.

'broadcast work by author turned' is the wordplay.
'broadcast' becomes 'air' (to air on TV).
'work' becomes 'op' (abbreviation for opus).
'by author' becomes 'me' (the author of the crossword. I am not sure about the 'by' bit.).
'turned' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'air'+'op'+'me'='airopme'
'airopme' in reverse letter order is 'EMPORIA'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for emporia that I've seen before include "large-scale marketing operations" , "Large retail shops" , "Large retail outlets" , "Trading centres" , "sales outlets" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sunday Times and The Times.
