I believe the answer is:

airing

'broadcasting' is the definition.
(as in airing a TV programme)

'first-class band' is the wordplay.
'first class' becomes 'ai' (A1 - top quality).
'band' becomes 'ring' (a ring is a band of metal).
'ai'+'ring'='AIRING'

(Other definitions for airing that I've seen before include "Expressing (an opinion) publicly" , "Ventilation" , "Exposure" , "Broadcasting" , "Showing" .)
