Crossword Genius

Brown's a survivor! (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

liver

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue could be a double definition.

'brown's' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.

'a survivor' is the second definition.
The definition and answer can be both people as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps there's a link between them I don't understand?

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for liver that I've seen before include "Hepatic organ" , "Glandular organ of the stomach" , "Bodily organ" , "Human organ" , "Part of body" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
