Crossword Genius

Bully’s outwardly terribly strong words (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tyrant

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'bully's' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'outwardly terribly strong words' is the wordplay.
'outwardly' means to remove the middle letters (only the outermost letters are used).
'strong words' becomes 'rant' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'terribly' with its centre removed is 'ty'.
'ty'+'rant'='TYRANT'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tyrant that I've seen before include "Harsh and absolute ruler" , "Person dictating" , "Arbitrary ruler" , "bully - with 17d" , "taskmaster" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
