Butler maybe getting page out of Spanish paper for French writer (8)

I believe the answer is:
rabelais
'french writer' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'butler maybe getting page out of spanish paper' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'butler' could be 'rab' and 'rab' is present in the answer.
'paper' could be 'i' (UK newspaper) and 'i' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'elas' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'for' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for rabelais that I've seen before include "French writer" , "16th-century French satirist, noted for earthy humour" , "Francois ......., 16th century French satirist - sort of base liar" , "bawdy writer" , "Creator of Gargantua" .)
