Bypass ship’s captain (4)

I believe the answer is:
skip
This could be a double definition.
'bypass ship's' is the first definition.
'skip' can be an answer for 'bypass' (I've seen this in another clue). I'm not sure about the 'ship's' bit.
'captain' is the second definition.
(short for skipper)
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for skip that I've seen before include "(Make a) small jump" , "dance" , "Jump lightly; miss out" , "Gambol" , "Miss - waste container" .)
