Calmed down when everyone agreed (7)
I believe the answer is:
allayed
'calmed' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'down when everyone agreed' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'down' could be 'd' and 'd' is found within the answer.
'when' could be 'e' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'e' is located in the answer.
'everyone' could be 'all' (all people) and 'all' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ay' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for allayed that I've seen before include "Calmed" , "Quelled" , "Put at rest, say suspicions" , "Soothed or diminished, say fears" , "'Diminished or put at rest, fear perhaps (7)'" .)
