Came down and got the fire going (3)

I believe the answer is:
lit
'came down' is the definition.
(light or alight can mean to land)
'got the fire going' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'li' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'and' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for lit that I've seen before include "Enlightened" , "Burning" , "Set fire to" , "Illuminated" , "fine writing in condensed form" .)
