Crossword Genius

Cameron disgustingly began licking flour (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cornmeal

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'flour' is the definition.
(I know that Cornmeal is a type of flour)

'cameron disgustingly began licking' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'cameron' is 'cornmea' which is within the answer.
A single letter 'l' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cornmeal that I've seen before include "Cook could use such" , "Food" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
