'little flower' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both plants as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe there's an association between them I don't understand?

'canine colour' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'canine' could be 'tooth' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'tooth' is present in the answer.
'colour' could be 'violet' (violet is a kind of colour) and 'violet' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'dogs' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'of' acts as a link.
